Our society comprises men and women. Gender equality boosts economic productivity, makes institutions more representative, and makes life better for future generations. In earlier times, men were considered to be the leading members of a family. They were responsible for earning the livelihood and were the decision takers of the family while women were responsible for doing household work and upbringing of the children. In summary, the roles were mainly based on gender. But none of them is focused on empowering the women.
Empowering women is essential to the health and social development of families, communities and countries. It refers to the process of giving women control over their choices and access to the opportunities and resources that allow them to thrive. While there’s been progress, gender inequality remains a persistent issue in the world. Because of this, women’s health is affected around the world. Factors like a lower income than men, more responsibilities at home and less education impact health. Women must be given equal opportunities in every field, irrespective of gender. They must also be given equal pay as well.
We should start respecting women and start giving them opportunities equal to men. Various programs must be established in order for them to fend for themselves in case they might face financial crisis. We should promote and encourage them to take up jobs, higher education, business activities, etc. Apart from these, we as individuals can also empower women by abolishing child marriage. By these small steps, it can change the situation of women in society and make them feel empowered.
