Important Matter

Festivals serves many purposes, one is to commemorate the gods and goddesses  as well as gatherings of people for the sole purpose of celebrations by preparing shows to entertain people within and beyond that specific place. 

            The Kannawidan festival aims for the preservation of the province' rich cultural heritage, practices and traditions, and a showcase of the different agriculture and industry products by presenting a fascinating exhibit for the people to witness. In this festival, the Ilocano people showcase cultural shows, native products and the talents of the Ilocanos. On the last week of January up to the first week of February, several activities were lined up for the celebration like parades, pageants and competitions which is conducted by the provincial government that are enjoyed by citizens from different places, even foreigners. For this year’s celebration, it is much more differ than the actual occurrence since Covid19 striked the world. The exhibits with captivating carnivals, crafts and arts, and concerts were nowhere to be seen and everything that attracts the crowd. With the mindful health of protocols, everyone who visits the Kannawidan exhibit ground is strictly limited to avoid the risk of getting covid19 disease.

     The festival reminds us to remember our culture and traditions. By this, we proved that nothing can’t stop Ilocanos from celebrating our special days amidst the pandemic. Hoping we will experience the usual celebration that we deserve soon.
