A Memorable Encounter
The Vigan City fiesta is being celebrated every 25th of January to honor St. Paul the Apostle. Because of the fact that Vigan City is one of the 7 Wonder Cities of the world, fiestas, festivals and other activities like the cultural shows, parades, street dancing and many more are relatively improving and upgrading every single year. Well ofcourse fiesta is not a fiesta without food fairs, arts and craft exhibits to showcase amazing talents and most of all the local disney land of every Filipino, carnivals. One of the most popular festival is the Longganisa Festival. Vigan City has a known product called Longganisa, though many manufacturers have tried copying it’s taste, there’s no other match from the original makers. Sadly, this year's fiesta is not as festive as before because of the pandemic we are facing right now.
The Corona Virus Disease has traveled different places and countries. With the situation we are currently facing, we weren’t able to perform the activities and enjoy the fiesta as much as before the pandemic. The government can’t risk an individual’s life, by this, they minimized various activities to commemorate the city’s tradition. Following the said protocols, personnel and staffs of the government conducted a raffle in a live video on Facebook to reach out to people. Several questions about Vigan City's fiesta were asked by the citizens who participated just by commenting their answers on the given time. The prizes were rice cookers, air fryers, bikes, phones and etc. They used social medias to reach their audience and to somewhat celebrate the festival without risking everyones safety amidst this pandemic.
All of these are some outcome of the terrifying global pandemic. We didnt enjoy this year's festivals but we Ilocanos are good at finding ways. We are known to be creative and resilient that’s why we still had a simple yet creative celebration amidst the pandemic to remember.
